::[bolivia, beyond words]::

the most incredible and beautiful thing i have ever seen: dawn over the salt flats of uyuni. photos can hardly capture the experience, but here are a few anyway...

we wake up at early and drive into the salar while it's still dark. these mounds are created by factory workers who manually pack and export the salt.

the rainy season has left the salar under a few inches of water, converting it into a perfect mirror. it feels like we are either riding on glass or flying through the sky...truly surreal...

dawn begins to tinge the sky red. our 4x4 leaves behind a wake in the water, as salt sprays across the windows.

to the left and to the right, it is difficult to distinguish where land ends and where sky begins.

we watch as the sun finally breaks over the horizon. unbelievable.

afterwards, we head out for a walk on the clouds.

we stop for breakfast at a hotel whose walls, floor, and furniture are made entirely of salt. tasty!
