::snapshots of my average day::
|
|
My Bedroom At long last - I wake up to my own room. I finally have a home! |
Niño I'm greeted by Niño, a jumpy and ultra-curious cat that's always getting tangled up in something. |
Breakfast Start the day with a typical chilean concoction...creamed avocados and lemon juice on toasted bread. |
|
The Living Room The multi-purpose center of operations in the apartment. We eat, rest, and host guests here. |
Micro Musician Time to head for work! I hop a bus (a.k.a. a "micro") to Santiago Centro. Micro passengers are often serenaded by musicians or vendors hawking random items. |
Out the Back Window A peek out from the micro's back window as it barrels down the street. |
In All Their Glory What micros look like from the outside. Undisputed rulers of the road, these bright yellow tanks battle each other for passengers. Pedestrians and cyclists beware! |
|
¿Tienes hambre? To reach the office, I have to pass an obstacle course of vendors of empanadas (meat or cheese filled pastries) and sopaipillas (deep-fried pumpkin bread that you slather with tomatoes and mustard). I'm a frequent customer of this guy. |
Pio Nono Bellavista's main drag. It's lined with easygoing restaurants and cafes by day, and racous discotecas by night. |
Ciudad Viva My office is on the bottom floor of an old converted house. |
Donatella The Uruguayan Executive Director of Ciudad Viva. Always superbusy, and constantly drinking her Yerba Mate. |
